Icarus
This is an exceptional example of naïve art that appears to be idyllic and childlike on the surface but it’s actually a seriously foreboding piece that bewails a tale of short sightedness and the rude awakening which is sure to follow. If we look closely we can see that what’s depicted here is not true as the sun and cloud sit in front of the hills, the barn is too big and the birds are too small, and if we as sentient beings insist on choosing servile ignorance over responsible intelligence our rights will become increasingly ridiculous and our liberties more laughable as we continue to plunge ourselves headlong into the cavernous depths of designer oblivion; which is just plain wrong in my opinion.
